US Special Envoy to South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, is traveling to the Maldives and Sri Lanka to bolster security and economic ties. The visit, scheduled from Thursday to Tuesday, seeks to reaffirm American commitment to the bilateral relationship while advancing critical infrastructure and regional stability. This diplomatic engagement marks a significant milestone, celebrating 60 years of official relations between the United States and the Maldives. Ambassador Gor, who also serves as the US Ambassador to India, aims to address key bilateral interests and strengthen the strategic partnership in the Indian Ocean region.

Gor is traveling to Sri Lanka and the Maldives from Thursday to Tuesday for high-level engagements focused on advancing cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
In the Maldives, Gor will engage with senior government officials to reaffirm the United States’ dedication to the bilateral relationship, strengthen security collaboration, explore ways to assist the Maldives in enhancing its critical infrastructure and growing its economy, and celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations.
The US Department of State reaffirmed its commitment to a lasting partnership with the Maldives and emphasized its dedication to regional security and stability.
Gor has also been serving as the US Ambassador to India since January 2026.
Maldives and the US established diplomatic relations in 1966.
