The Maldives has allocated MVR 500,000 from this year's record-breaking Zakat al-Fitr collections to provide critical food aid to Palestinians in Gaza. Administered by the Maldives Zakat House, these funds were distributed via the Isra Association to address urgent humanitarian needs amid the ongoing conflict. This donation constitutes a significant portion of the MVR 14 million total collected, reflecting the nation's commitment to supporting Gaza. Additionally, the Zakat House allocated MVR 423,749 to the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s Social Trust Fund, demonstrating the strategic deployment of religious charitable contributions to support both global and domestic vulnerable populations.

The Maldives has donated MVR 500,000 in Zakat al-Fitr proceeds collected this year to aid Palestinians in Gaza.

Zakat al-Fitr is a mandatory charitable donation paid by Muslims at the end of Ramadan, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, to purify their fast and support the poor.

The Maldives Zakat House has announced that it receives over MVR 14 million as Zakat al-Fitr this year – marking the highest amount collected so far.

MVR 500,000 of the zakat proceeds have been donated to Palestine.

According to the Zakat House, the donation will go towards providing food to Gazans, and was handed over to the Isra Association on Thursday night.

The Zakat House handed over another MVR 423,749 to support the Social and Family Development Ministry’s Social Trust Fund.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed more than 72,000 people, among them tens of thousands of children and women.

The donation to aid Palestinians comes as Israel continues to bomb Gaza, despite the October 2025 ceasefire agreement – which it has violated almost daily.
