On March 29, 2026, the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) achieved a critical developmental milestone with the official opening of a newly constructed emergency room and a comprehensive dialysis extension building. The inauguration ceremony, led by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, highlights the administration's strategic commitment to upgrading regional medical facilities to meet tertiary care standards. This expansion not only increases the hospital's daily capacity but also ensures that essential, specialized healthcare services are more accessible to the population residing in the northern atolls, reducing the need for patients to travel to the capital for urgent treatment.
The Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) has opened a new Emergency Room (ER) and a dialysis extension building.
The new facilities were inaugurated by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed in a ceremony held on Sunday.
According to the President’s Office, the expanded dialysis unit inaugurated on Sunday is equipped to treat nine patients simultaneously, while the new ER has increased capacity with the addition of six beds.
Sunday’s ceremony also saw Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim lay the foundation stone for a new isolation facility at the hospital.
According to the President’s Office, the facility will have private rooms, a convertible quarantine area, and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 800.
The KRH is being developed into a tertiary-level facility as part of the government’s policy to expand healthcare services across the atolls.
